Not many of us realise that practicing self care is so important for our everyday lives. When you take good care of your body, mind and soul every day it can help you stay healthy, happy and resilient. There are so many things we can do to engage in self care. Self care differs for everyone, whether it be binge watching a Netflix series or taking a long bubble bath. There’s no right or wrong way to improve your self care, as long as it relaxes you and re-energises you for the next day is what really counts. If you’re not one who regularly opts to stop amidst a busy time to take a couple moments for yourself, we’ve got some self-care tips and routines for you to add into your lifestyle to help yourself feel better no matter what you’re going through.

 

  1. Drink water in the morning when you wake up

Drinking water first thing in the morning is a great way to energise you for your day. We often wake up after a night’s sleep slightly hydrated, this can affect your performance throughout the day and leave you feeling low. A glass of water can change that and hydrate you for the day to come. 

 

  1. Prioritise your sleep

Sleep has a huge effect on how you feel emotionally and physically. Not getting the right amount of sleep you need can lead to major health issues. Adults should be trying to sleep for an average of seven to nine hours each night to achieve the benefits a full night's sleep provides. To ensure you are getting the best sleep possible, make sure that your bedroom is free from distractions such as TVs, laptops and phones. Using these devices before going to bed can impact your sleep and prevent you from achieving the seven to nine hours you need. 

 

  1. Take care of your diet. 

When life gets busy, healthy diets tend to be at the bottom of our priority list with takeaway being the easy option so many of us take. Foods can impact our health and wellbeing both positively and negatively, depending on what we are eating. Eating healthy, fresh foods help fuel us throughout the day and can improve overall health. But eating healthier is easier said than done, especially when we have very little time on our hands. This is why pre-planning and prepping your meals for the week is a good idea to ensure that you’re maintaining a healthy diet and preventing you from grabbing whatever is easiest and most convenient to you at the time you’re feeling hungry, which - let’s face it - isn’t always the healthiest option.
