3 Workouts for a Hot Girl Summer

As Australia is heading into summer, we want to share with you some tips for getting motivated for the upcoming season. Where does ‘Hot Girl Summer’ come from? It’s a song by Megan Thee Stallion featuring Nikki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign, simply called ‘Hot Girl Summer’. The song has become super popular among TikTok users showing off their ways to get ready for the warmer weather by feeling more empowered and confident about their life and body. We will go through 3 ways to work out so that you can achieve your own personal ‘Hot Girl Summer’.

 1. Weights 

Starting off the list with one of our favourite workouts, weights. No matter what your fitness level, you can incorporate weights into your routine. Weights are an incredible way to build muscle mass and tone up your body. Not only does it make you physically stronger, it can help with your bones and joints and also keep your metabolism at a healthy level. This means you can burn more calories in your everyday life even when your favourite pastime is just watching Netflix. 

If you’ve never lifted weights then we suggest going to a Personal Trainer to make sure your form is correct, otherwise you may hurt yourself, leading to a not so hot girl summer. We suggest starting off with a low weight that you are comfortable with and gradually build up to heavier weights when you’re ready. Make sure you have rest days too as this is crucial for building muscle!

What is LIT? 

It is low-intensity training which can be anything that is easygoing or keeps your heart rate low. This could be something as simple as a walk! The hot girl summer trend really highlights ‘hot girl walks’ which is just a way to make sure you get your steps in and keep active during the day. 

The reason why just simply walking can be beneficial to your health is that it can increase your cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness, this is your heart and lung health. It is also great for reducing some risk of heart disease and stroke, lowering blood pressure and helping with joint and muscular pain or stiffness.

 3. HIIT 

What is HIIT?

HIIT is High-Intensity Interval Training, simply it is an exercise that involves short periods of intense movements alongside recovery periods. It is great for people who don’t have much time to work out because it allows you to achieve the same results in a short amount of time. HIIT workouts typically range from 10-30 minutes in duration. HIIT can be anything done in high intensity such as sprinting, biking, skipping rope or any other bodyweight exercises, for example, jump squats or knee-highs. 

HIIT can burn up to 30% more calories than a LIIT workout, it raises your metabolic rate meaning that you will burn more calories after the workout. It is also great for fat loss and gaining muscle mass.

Here is an example of how you can implement a HIIT workout into your fitness routine: 

  • Set up a treadmill to your desired speed or outside, sprint as hard and fast as you can for 30 seconds. Then after the 30 seconds is done, jog or walk at a slow/easy pace for 30 seconds, repeat this for 15-30 minutes. 
  • Another way that you can do HIIT workouts is through doing sets of 3-5 different exercises as a round, then repeating those same exercises 3-5 times. For example, 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off of jump squats, sprints, burpees, rope slams and/or stationary bike sprints. 

What to wear while doing a HIIT workout? Well, you will most likely be sweating and getting hot while doing this sort of exercise.
